I've finally got round to installing Sun's excellent VirtualBox software under Windows 7 on my main laptop (now that it has recovered from power supply failure).
The first virtual machine I wanted was a fresh, clean installation of Windows XP ready for some development work.
Imagine my surprise then when many hours later, it is still installing!
Why? Well that will be to do with the rather extreme number of updates that Windows Update is pushing down.
Firstly I was missing Service Pack 3 as I hadn't done any XP installations in quite a while. But even then, there are another 187MB of downloads, most of which are classed as critical. And that is without needing any hardware updates.
Phew! Still I suppose we can be thankful that Microsoft are still putting out fixes at least security ones anyway.
